BORG & BECK CLUTCH.

As reported in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Aln.1/Ma.26.12.32, the information of greatest interest derived from the Borg & Beck clutch supplied to suit our 20/25 HP engine, is that they work to a value of A identical with the value we have always used, namely .18

We had hoped to find that by use of their fixing for the presser plate which cannot bind in the splines, that they would have been able to rely on a much higher value of A with a consequent decrease in pedal pressure. This is not, however, the case.

On a visit to their works at Leamington we had a very interesting discussion with them, eliciting all the information we required. But on ordering one of their spring driven clutch centres, to test the value of a discontinuous rating, their London office sent a representative to see us to find out whether we should ever buy any parts from them or pay them any royalties. In fact they pointed out that they were unlikely in any way to gain anything by supplying us with further material.

We have written them to find out what patents they hold in connection with torsionally flexible clutch centres, and suggest we pay them for the clutch we have so as to be rid of all obligation to them.

We attach a copy of their last letter to us.
