R.{Sir Henry Royce} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (At Le Canada) S. to CC. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. to HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} HUC. JAPAN 3. R3/H/29.1.31. x5770. [Stamp 1: Circular, purple ink] C.W.P. 28 FEB 1931 H.S. ORIGINAL [Stamp 2: Rectangular, teal ink] RECEIVED [Asian characters] Thanks to Mr. Hives for his excellent report and suggestions re. Japan 3. design, we are doing almost exactly what he wishes, but there are one or two differences of opinion. Personally I cannot see how we can make the 6 cyl. engines of our size satisfactory up to the very high speeds. If I am right we want double top gears and double carburetters. Speed range of 6 seems limited - see my other memos. Speed range of 12 cyls. is much greater - i.e. can go slower, and can go faster, in RPM. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
