Dear Bill, I have now lived with my motor car for a few days (after the alterations) and have had a chance of watching how it behaves. I find it rather difficult to say exactly what my feelings are about it. There is definitely less movement on the wings, but, as you say, it has not completely cured the trouble. It rather gives me the impression that it has stiffened the car up considerably in front, with the result that the springs seem rather harsh, especially driving over potholes at fairly low speeds. I thought at first that you had blown up the tyres to 40 lbs, but this is not the case, as they are only 30lbs., at which I usually run them. I also wonder whether it has introduced a little more kick on the steering wheel on a bad road; but here again, I am not quite sure. To-day I drove Geoffrey's car, to which you will remember he has fitted a cross bar bracing the wings together. I should say that your cross bar has reduced the wing movement rather more than his tie bar. I also think that his car is rather more powerful than mine, but, of course, as you say, you had no time to do anything to the engine for me. If it continues to be somewhat sluggardly, could you either send someone over to deal with it for me, or deal with it at Derby? | ||
