re. 20.HP. BODY UNDERFRAME SUSPENSION.

We send herewith N.scheme 1491. shewing the construction and dashboard together with the support for the sloping footboards suitable for use with the underframe design.

We wish Derby to fix the aluminium channel round the dash. The chassis being "B" type no instrument board brackets will be required, the instrument board being carried off the scuttle. Brackets however may be sent to the coachbuilders to support the board until the body is fitted.

We have found the entire separation of the scuttle and dash on the 20.HP. chassis to be rather too free, and we propose reinstating the 2 spherical seated bolts with rubber distance pieces, one on either side of the top bonnet hinge.

The sloping footboards and floorboards are to be part of the body and to move with it. This may necessitate slightly larger clearances round the pedal stems. The sloping boards rest on the sheet metal angle bracket and are made to clear the existing dash brackets by being cut away underneath the board as shewn.

We think that you have now sufficient information to fit the chassis up and send it to Barkers with its underframe in position so that they can then start to lay out the body. We are aware that we shall later on have some design work to do on the valances and runningboards etc, and that a new rear step iron has yet to be created. The present one should be removed and we will arrange for one of our men in London to drill and fit the new one.
