1036 To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}15.2.40. DRAIN PIPES ON CARBURETTERS. We have to finalise the controls and induction layout for the S.U. and the Duplex Stromberg carburetter on the rationalised range of 6-cylinder engines. We consider that the whole question of drain pipes can be re-considered on this new series of power plants. The two factors that have largely altered the conditions under which the induction system has to operate are:- (1) The introduction of a mechanical petrol pump which means that the carburettors cannot flood unless the engine is being turned over. (2) The induction system being on the opposite side to the sparking plugs and the dynamo also being pushed forward out of harm's way. We should like to start these designs off without any drain pipes at all either on the induction pipe or on the float chambers, but arrange the design of induction pipe so that a drain can be fitted if this is found necessary, and we will work up from this point.
