1293? EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Clm.{D. D. Clapham}1/JH. 24th. August, 1939. The Cloudsley Engineering Co.Ltd., 13, Queen Anne's Gate, LONDON.S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Leslie Cloudsley. Dear Sirs, We have now had the opportunity of trying your Oyston valves on one of our cars. So far we have had very disappointing results, there being far too much harshness. We think the trouble is that the initial load before build up occurs is too high and that the build up occurs too quickly. To try and overcome this we want to reduce the number of laminae from 4 to 2. To obtain the same maximum load we shall then have to increase the movement of the dashpot slightly. This can be done by grinding the part no. TL/722 in your drawing no.TL&/20. Therefore we should like a set of these assemblies as soon as possible but in the meantime we will try the effect of a smaller groove in our present assemblies as soon as you send us some spare dashpots. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
