COMPARISON BETWEEN TREMBLER AND NON-TREMBLER IGNITION.

We have arranged the ignition on an experimental car so that we can very quickly on the road, change over from the present 12-volt ignition non-trembler system to the pre-war 6-volt trembler coil. We have tried changing from one ignition to the other a great number of times and if anything, we find that the non-trembler gives us better slow running and more even running. We are quite certain that the present ignition can be made to give equally as good results as anything we had before the war for slow running and of course it is very much better as regards high speed work.

Mr. Platford, although he agrees that it is possible with the present ignition to get equally as good slow running as we do with the trembler ignition, raises a doubt as to whether the present ignition will continue with good slow running. From tests that we have made we are convinced that it will. To get even slow running, whether with the present ignition or with the trembler ignition, it is essential for the engine to be in good fettle; the most important point of the lot, of course, is sparking plugs.

We shall keep this car running about with these two ignitions fitted and periodically change over to see whether we can distinguish any deterioration on either ignition.
