The performance and issues with a new type of battery ignition system.

Regarding the new type battery ignition, I have come to the conclusion that this is a success, and need give no reason for anxiety on account of reliability, if it continues to do as well as it has done in the case of 7 CA, 1 EX, and 49 GB. With this ignition new advantages can be found, and there is no doubt that it fires much more regularly and synchron- -ously, especially picking up, therefore giving, over a range of speed, better power, and is favourable to petrol consumption. I have been running 49 GB quite a lot since receiving it, when I thought it a harsh running engine, probably owing to it being very tightly refitted in the bearings. It is now much better, but I am not charmed with it like I was with 1 EX. X.1172 (1) In picking up on the top gear from 16 to 24 m.p.h. the engine vibrates the car. The exact reason has to be proved, but certainly suggests the universal use of flexible connections between dash and scuttle. (2) I have the impression that it will not run slowly enough on the top gear without missing fire on the engine and chunking in the transmission. The exact cause of this I have not been successful in proving. I am expecting 1 EX back, as Mr. Hives was dissatisfied with the altered 49 GB when he left it here, on occasion of a hurried conference on piston knocks, a feature to me of much less importance than such points as the above.
