BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}? X9310 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M16.1.31. Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} P. 2. GEARBOX. We notice on a drawing we have here that the roller bearing on the rear end of the reverse shaft originally schemed at WW., has been replaced by a ball bearing. We should be very interested to know the reason for this. We presume it is a question of cost. Full advantage has not been taken of the use of a ball bearing in this position as the distance piece at the forward end could have been eliminated. Possibly the practice was not continued. The bearing in this position is considerably overloaded but presumably it has been well tested. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
