Bentley III Independent Front Suspension.

We send herewith N.Sch.4927 showing the frame extension steering pivot and triangle bearings, and N.Sch.4952 showing the triangle lever movements and revised yoke piece.

Referring to N.Sch.4927 we would point out that the forging is attached to the box section frame in a manner similar to that used for the front suspension of Wraith II and that which is not handed.

We have taken up with the Tool Dept. the question of producing the external thread on the bearing housing and they think that to chase this thread is a reasonable proposition. Should, however, this be not so in practice, by re-arranging the design slightly at the expense of weight and stress, we could provide a bolted flange.

The forging should be made first and tried in mild steel.

The frame extension is a mild steel pressing and the bumper bracket is that used for Wraith II.

The pan is made of .064" thick mild steel.

This drawing shows also the bearing housing for the centre steering lever and the inner bearings for the top and bottom triangles.

On N.Sch.4952 we show the top and bottom triangle levers with provision for attaching the shock damper. The lever forgings are not handed.

You have already received from us N.Sch.4886 giving particulars of the yoke piece which we have previously informed you has been the subject of various modifications.

This drawing will enable you to instruct the final yoke piece with the exception of a boss which has to be provided to carry the idler lever to the front brakes. A bump and rebound stop has been indicated on this drawing but it will form the subject of a separate scheme.
