SMITH We are in receipt of your letter of the 15th instant, confirming the visit which your Mr. Smith made to these Works on Thursday, and would confirm the arrangements mentioned, namely:- 1) We will make special arrangements for setting the Clutch fingers and endeavour to keep these in plane to within .005". 2) We will keep the Thrust Springs on the high limit, namely, on the 10" Clutch 151-155 lbs., and on the 11" Clutch to 110-115 lbs. 3) With regard to the 13½" Driven Plate, we are making arrangements to test these within two plates, so that the question of runout and depth of crimp will be taken into consideration when making the test. As mentioned on the telephone to Mr. Smith yesterday, we have found it possible to adapt one of our existing machines to do this job and have already got in hand the machining of the special plate casting required for adapting the machine.
