PHANTOM RELAY ADVANCE.

You will remember that I have pointed out that the above can be made to work quite satisfactorily with much lower pressure oil, without noise, and with sleeve magneto. 7-EX. is so working.

The scheme I want adopting is (1) only slight friction, say 1 lb., on magneto rocker, just enough to damp the vibrations due to elasticity, (2) spring on magneto rocker sufficient to hold it retarded and return the advanced rocker to zero when the servo returns to zero, (3) considerably reduced or no spring at all over the oil servo motor, (4) shorten the connecting rod from the governor to the control valve so as to get a small advance (say 10º) as soon as oil pressure sufficient (say 10 lbs.) and so make the most of the governor stroke, and anticipate all lag due to valve clearance, leakage, etc.

My impression is that the advance on 7-EX. is more like dotted lines A.{Mr Adams} & B. instead of full line C.

Will HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} let someone report on this and get the corrected scheme on the next 10,000 miler - i.e. EAC. 8.

I fear we have been going the right way to spoil this apparatus.
