To: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. XP40 Hôtel de France Châteauroux, Indre. 14/5/30 X77 We have telegraphed you to-day as follows:- MODIFIED RADIATOR MOUNTING ON 24-EX ABSOLUTELY STEADY. We were able to finish to-day the fitting of the modified radiator mounting on 24-EX, and have tested the same. We tried it with the mascot on the radiator, and at no speed was there any sign of radiator movement. It remained perfectly steady, although we could observe that the lamps and the wings were vibrating considerably. We fitted the radiator mounting up to the memo and sketch sent. We have not had to put excessive load on the rubber, and no adjustments had to be made on the road. We require a letter from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} authorizing the signing of the papers. If you will please let us have this, the car can leave here immediately. We have resumed running with 23-EX to-day, and I shall take the opportunity to fit to 23-EX the second set of modified radiator mounting that has been sent out. Re 24-EX, it was necessary to lift the centre of the radiator up .216" to get the necessary .2" clearance between the radiator bottom tank and the cross member over the spring. We found it necessary to pack the bottom water outlet with .3" packing to get the outlet sufficiently clear from the under side of the radiator cross member. This meant we had to make studs to suit. We are not attempting to do anything else to the car in the way of taking the clutch down, etc. G.W.H. [Signature] | ||
