[STAMP: RECEIVED 20 DEC 1930]

BRAKE DRUMS - 40/50 HP. CHASSIS.

We have stopped the production of any further brake drums to the original thickness of material, so far as the rear is concerned, as we are able from existing pressings to increase the thickness of the drum 40%.

In regard to the front wheel brake drums, however, the pressings are produced so near to size that we cannot give any increase of thickness until we have obtained pressings in thicker material.

It appears very doubtful that increasing the thickness of the material will overcome the particular fault which raised the question viz. the foot pedal going forward too far after a series of short and fierce brake applications. It appears to be more a question of expansion than strength of stiffness of the drum, and from this point of view we are therefore urging forward the experiments with ribs on the front and rear drums.
