Complaint of noisy vibrations from change speed lever. The above car has been into N. for a chattering noise from the change speed lever at 35 m.p.h. when in third gear. I have examined it and cannot find any evidence to definitely say what is the cause. The selector shaft was correctly located by the plungers and the amount of slack in the striking arm in the locating fork was not more than a few thousandths. There was a certain amount of slack in the universals of the change lever shaft. The vibrations could be stopped by placing a wedge lightly between the gate slot and the lever. Have you had a similar experience, if so we should be pleased to know what to do? For the present we have put a blob of solder for the lever to rest against to prevent it vibrating, but this is not considered a cure. It is alright for the present. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Our experience of gear lever vibrations has been confined to mis-alignment of the change speed shaft GW.1794. No further trouble experienced when this was corrected. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} | ||
