For the attention of Mr. Cooper.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 24th. July.

In reply to our query regarding the packing piece between the armature and the diaphragm, we agree that provision has been made in the pot to allow for the swelling of the diaphragm, but this only takes account of the outer roller race and if the packing is not fitted there is bound to be a narrowing down on the inner race on the armature. It will also lead to confusion if two types of armature assembly are in existence and we would prefer to keep them identical.

We are, of course, referring to the Red Fibre packing used on the armature assembly and not to the annular packing rings supplied for the assemblies which are used in the existing pumps with steel coil housings.

Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
