SECRET. X104 EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/10.8.32. TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} [Handwritten] Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Sq. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} RE BODIES FOR PEREGRINE. Messrs Park Ward & Co. has been instructed to construct five more bodies for Peregrine--(Bentley "A" Model). All the chassis will require to have untarnishable finish throughout. At the request of Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} we are asking for a bonnet lengthened two inches by merely extending the existing bonnet back by that amount. We would be glad if BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} would arrange to make the necessary drawings without a scheme from W.W. For the close coupled bodies on this chassis fashion will demand a louvred bonnet. We would be glad if Derby would set this out. As the louvres will have to extend back beyond the dashboard it will be necessary to so space the louvres so that a flat part of the bonnet may come opposite the rubber resting strip as indicated in the sketch attached to the copy of this memo to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} In order that we may match up these louvres on the scuttle we would be glad to receive advance information if possible of the height and spacing of these louvres in the course of the next three weeks at the most. Two of the cars will have wheels carried on the body at the rear, and we would be glad if Derby would arrange to supply to Messrs Park Ward & Co. such dummy hubs which we suppose will be obtained from the Dunlop Co., similar to those for the 25.H.P. We would be glad if Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} would also supply them with the following: (1) A sample wheel and tyre to act as a model for fitting the wheel into a recess in the panel of the luggage boot. (2) A complete set of instruments for the instrument board so that the boards may be cut for the instruments and polished. (3) A complete set of tools which it will be necessary to carry so that we can arrange for their housing. It is proposed to carry all the road tools under the bonnet in recesses in the scuttle and so to avoid tool boxes in the steps. We give below the special features required on each chassis in the order of their building, and the date of delivery we have asked Messrs Park Ward to adhere to for the delivery of the body. 1.Per.2. This is the car now in Derby. 2.Per.2. Closely resembles the Four Door Saloon I.Per.2. Chassis "D" Steering. Side wheel carrier. Rear Apron. Shuttered Bonnet. Body delivered Sept.21st. 3.Per.2. Close Coupled Four Door Saloon. Chassis "E" Steering. Wheel on dummy hub at rear. No rear apron. Louvred bonnet. Body delivered on Oct. 5th. 4.Per.2. This is exactly the same body as above but has the spare wheel on the side. | ||
