R.R. 493A (40 H) (SL 42 12-7-23). J.H., D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} LL46024 132 EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. 634 REF: HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LGL1.10.23. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ENGINE MOUNTING. We attach herewith a further list of tests carried out on Engine Mounting on 2-Goshawk-11. This is a continuation of our report Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LGL.10.23. Generally, wherever we add weight we reduce the amount of vibration - when we fit the weight on to the side of the engine it has less moment than when it is hung underneath. We rather think this is the reason why we obtain slightly better results with it underneath than with it on the side. Our opinion is, that the improvement is due to the increased inertia rather than balancing the engine about its centre of gyration. We have still to try dampers in connection with rigid two-point front suspension and single-point at the rear. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
