6117 - EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}4/JH. 25th. November, 1938. Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, BIRMINGHAM. For the attention of Mr. Toulmin. Dear Sirs, During your Mr. Taylor's recent visit, it was arranged that we should carry out certain tests on a car for him. We are sorry that it was not possible for him to personally conduct the tests at the time of his visit also for the delay in making the observations ourselves, and forwarding the information. We have just been unfortunate in getting the right cars in a suitable condition. We are now able, however to give you results of the tests agreed upon carried out on a Bentley car fitted with your harness. It is hoped that there will be to your satisfaction. While writing, we would like to again raise the point of the ratio of the swamping resistance to the resistance of the shunt-coil winding on the LR{Mr Ellor}7 type regulator. We are completely mystified by what appears to us to be this sudden talk of a 6 : 1 ratio. If you will refer to our letter Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}8/JH.18.1.38. you will see that we expressed satisfaction with the unit as it then stood. Further, we record in that letter the main features of the design, which include a 3 : 1 ratio of swamp to shunt coil resistance. As far as we know the design rests there, we have neither asked for any alteration to be made, nor received intimation of any having been made. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
