Messrs. Wellworthy Ltd. -3- 2nd. February 1938 Filtration. We have pointed out to all the people to whom we have supplied bearings the importance of good filters and we recommend they use a filter of the Tecalemit type in conjunction with a good filter of the by-pass type. We find that we cannot be too careful in keeping dirt out of the bearings, no matter how much care is taken in cleaning parts before erecting the engine certain small pieces of metal find their way to the bearings. It is therefore essential to pass all the oil in the early stages through an efficient filter and that is the reason we use the Tecalemit type. The by-pass type of filter is particularly useful in keeping the oil free from carbon which is quite a problem with Oil engines. A good type of by-pass filter is manufactured by General Filters Inc., Detroit, Michigan and can be thoroughly recommended; replacements for this filter are quite reasonable in price. Manufacturers already supplied with Bearings. Leyland Motors. Leylands have had two sets of Connecting-Rod bearings and so far have given quite good results. Their tests are referred to in the February issue of the I.A.E. Journal in the paper by Mr. Devereux. Dennis Bros. Dennis Bros. have had two sets of Connecting Rod Bearings but at the moment have not fitted them to an engine. They hope to have them running very soon and are to let us know when they have them down for inspection. Rover Co. The Rover Co. have had two sets of Connecting Rod bearings but so far have not run them. These are the only bearings supplied to any firm with a crankshaft hardness lower than 600. The hardness of their shaft was only 225-270, but we have suggested that they heat-treat this up to 320-340 Brinell. E.R.A. E.R.A. have tried the bearings for connecting rods and have now standardised them for this season's racing. They have | ||
