To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X4553a Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}4/KW.20.2.34. 4-B-IV. B.3 Unit. Owing to the failure of the cage in the Pinion Thrust Bearing we have decided to run this Car a further 10,000 miles with a steel cage in the same bearing. We think the failure may have been due partially to blocking of the bearing by carbon, and should like you to examine the rest of the axle for further evidence. We shall be getting the bearing back on Wednesday morning. In view of running another 10,000 miles we should like to run a test on Dural connecting rods, and hope you will have the car ready to start running by Thursday morning.
