We have been in communication with Paris this morning, and they inform us that the axle cannot be straightened They also informed me that they were meeting Bell tomorrow morning to assist him with the parts through the Customs. If Bell brings a front axle they are going to fit the hubs etc. taken off the old axle before sending it down here. We have in the meantime dismantled the engine and examined the pistons. We cannot find any definite cause for No 3 piston knocking. It is a good fit in the bore. There is a fair amount of slack on the non pressure sides of the piston, and by the bearing of the con. rod the pressure has been on one side only. This may have caused the piston to rock over side ways at the bottom of the stroke. We have therefore eased the face of the con. rod bearing bringing the rod more central.

CRANKCASE BREATHER
We have made an oil catcher for the breather which we believe will remedy the trouble.

CYLINDER HEAD
We have taken out all the valves and examined the seatings. We found the exhaust had hammered in slightly. The seatings of the valves were burnt and pitted. It looks very much that the clearance of .004 is not sufficient and for the remainder of the mileage we shall try .006.

SLIPPER WHEEL
So far the fitting of the Ferodo discs to the slipper wheel has not shown any detrimental results.
