Notes of Meeting - cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} points have been cleared for standardisation with the exception of Nos.5, 10, 16, 12 and 17. The main troubles on the test were the clutch, which was different from standard and which is not being standardised and the pistons which are not being standardised. The other trouble was the steering but, as the steering is OK. on 20-G-IV and on Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s car, it was not thought that this was due to rubber engine mounting but to variation in cars. He. said that the steering on this car was not good before rubber engine mounting was fitted. 21-G-IV is going back to France shortly with various new features and La{L. A. Archer} Salle type steering and lead bronze bearings. The Experimental Dept. are to send a list of the new features as soon as they have been been definitely settled. Easier Change Gearboxes. There have been no developments since the last meeting but it was agreed that we must continue to take interest in this matter and that some one from the Design Dept. should go along and see the Sponten people. WRAITH ENGINE. Design work is said to be going well ahead and of the two engines referred to at the last discussion Designs are of course pushing on first with the one for the Wraith engine as distinct from the one for the Bentley. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} raised the question of the Wraith wheelbase. The last arrangement [illegible] was that the body space would be the same as the standard 20/25, i.e. 90" dash to back axle and that we would have a 3" longer one for people who wanted more room. It was suggested that the difference of 3" was not sufficient variation to be worth while and that a better arrangement would be 90" for saloons and 96" for cars with face forward seats, or alternatively 93 and 99. The Phantom long wheelbase is 100. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} promised to send up a schedule giving the various dimensions and those of the new Daimler so that the matter could be discussed by Sales officials. | ||
