Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/KW. 5th November 1934. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Department, DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of W.A.Robotham Esq. In connection with your communication of the 1st, we despatched on Friday the twenty pistons referred to in the last paragraph of your letter, but we are afraid that you will still find that they are not down to 17 oz. The castings which were used were, of course, made prior to your pointing out this question of weight to the writer when he visited you last, and all that we have done is to place them all within .1 oz. by machining back the skirt as suggested. These twenty pistons, therefore, are actually 17.5 oz. plus .10 minus .00. The reason for the increase in weight from the original figure of 17 oz. is not properly understood and for that reason, we asked you, in our communication of 15th October, to let us have one of the original pistons which the writer saw at the time when the weight question was raised at your Works, so that we could take careful core measurements. We do not know whether you are referring | ||
