# 1293. Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}6/MH.{M. Huckerby} 18th. July, 1939. Messrs. Gordon Armstrong Patent Suspension Co. Ltd., Waltham Works, Beverley, E.YORKS. For the attention of Gordon Armstrong, Esq. Dear Sirs, Shock Damper for Bentley. Herewith a drawing SCD.1455 being a suggestion for a shock damper which may be used in various ways, for instance:- (1) As a hand controlled autolock damper. (2) As an autolock damper without manual control. (3) As a simple two valve damper. There are one or two other possible ways of using this damper also, e.g. as a hand controlled non-autolock damper. The idea behind the design is that it shall be fitted to all our cars, and that on the expensive models all the gadgets can be fitted. We are most concerned with the cost of the damper in its most simple form. The pistons, rocker and links and refill valves are standard G.A. The case is special. The expensive features are the long holes with valves at the bottom, and the drilling. We understand that you have used cast in tubes to reduce drillings and we are carrying out similar experiments in our Iron Foundry. | ||
