Gearbox for SpectreCodename for Phantom III 1-S-1.

We shall be using the gearbox which you have just removed from 2-S-1 for ghunking tests in chassis 1-S-1. Before fitting it to the car will you please make the following modifications :-

(1) Fit continuous gears; that is to say, constant mesh, 3rd and 2nd speed, having a maximum pitch line backlash of .002". We do not mind in the least if the gears are noisy, but do not wish this amount of slack to be exceeded.

(2) The 1st motion shaft constant mesh gear, the 3rd motion shaft 2nd speed gear, and the second motion shaft constant mesh and 3rd speed gears should all be a driving fit on their shafts.

(3) The shafts should be end loaded to N.Sch.4448.

(4) The top and 3rd sliding pieces should be as tight as possible on the splines of the third motion shaft.

(5) The end clearance of the third and second speed loose pinions should not exceed .002".
