X18 Report on foot-brake fitted with cast iron shoes with Ferodo Tips. -------------------- In use these work like the standard cast iron shoes, that is if they are used excessively the brake straps distort and causes the brake to be springy and ineffective. The drums do not expand like they do with plain Ferodo shoes. When used lightly for just easing up the car they seem more silent than the cast iron shoes, but after being in use down a long hill they make as much noise as the standard shoes. I have run them 400 miles, and used them excessively, there has been very little wear. I have not had to adjust them at all. At present they are not effective because the straps are distorted, and all the movements on the pedal is taken up by the springyness. I think we should continue experiments with Ferodo and cast iron segments in connection with the air cooled drums. We have now fitted the car the wider air cooled brake drums with Ferodo shoes. I am carrying some plain cast iron ones to change. about 5:8:14 | ||
