X1166 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}14/KW. 18th July, 1935. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons (M.A.) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. For the attention of Mr. C.W. Nicholls. Dear Sirs, "Jackalls" - 21-G-IV. Mr. Bailey has no doubt pointed out that the rear Jacks on the above car are not quite suitable with regard to minimum length, owing to the fact that when they are fitted to give sufficient buffer clearance at the top, the ground clearance is reduced by approx. .75". Fortunately, the Jacks in the original position gave a lift of 2.75" and under the circumstances we can afford to decrease the length of the Jacks by 1". This will give us the desired Buffer and ground clearances. The two-stage Jacks were offered up, but it was found that without cutting away the spring gaiter and spring pad bracket, they could not be fitted satisfactorily. With regard to the set of Jacks we sent down with 21-G-IV, the writer has spoken to Mr. Robotham about these. As a complete new system has been fitted to 21-G-IV, will you kindly pass us a credit note for those retained by you when the car came to London. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
