Re Side Spare Wheel Carrier - Phantom III.
We send herewith LeC.5314 showing a design for a cheapened side-spare wheel carrier for Phantom III.
A print of this scheme was sent some little while ago to Sft.{Mr Swift} for costing and we suggest that no detailing should be done until such time as we have a report on the cost.
The chief modifications consist of:-
1) The wheel carrier step iron in which there is no direct bolting to the frame eliminating two bolts. The step iron is also in one piece, thereby eliminating more bolts and a pressing.
2) The pressing for the wheel carrier tube attachment to the frame is replaced by a simple bending.
3) The forging on the lower end of the tube is deleted and welded in ferrules form the distance pieces.
4) The wheel carrier top plate attachment to the tube is also made by welded in distance pieces in the place of the present forging.
5) Due to the wide bolt centres of the plate no reinforcements are required and the plate can be of a thin gauge steel (8 SWG).
6) The whole of the fixing bolt for the spare wheel has been redesigned and simplified, and we hope reducing the cost.
7) The aluminium distance piece has been reduced in size and in thickness.
