Minute No. -4- Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}1/R.29.5.33.

12. Boiling when idling. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} had reported that the water can boil if the engine is running for a long time idling.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} agreed that this was so, and said that it was a question of compromise whether a larger fan should be fitted or not, a larger fan would absorb more power at high speeds and the larger fan is not therefore necessary at high speeds. It was arranged that Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} should look further into this question.

13. Failure of Oil Pressure on excessive braking. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} had reported failure of the oil pressure when the brakes are heavily applied due to oil surge.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that they know of this feature, and they will have investigations made.

14. Bonnet clips. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} had reported that the bonnet clips are awkward to handle.

15. Floor Board Clearance. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} had reported that the clearance between the floor boards, gear box and gear lever is not sufficient and causes knocking on occasion.

Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} said that the boards are rather flexible and that they may on occasion foul certain parts.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that in order to keep the floor low we must work to rather fine clearances and it is necessary that the hard spots where fouling occurs should be carefully cleared away on each individual car.

16. Petrol Pump. The question of the type of petrol pump to be used was discussed and it was finally agreed that twin electric petrol pumps should be fitted.

Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} instructed that all the first 15 chassis should have the pumps changed accordingly, when they are returned to the Works for final test.

17. Standardisation Sheets. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} instructed that the Standardisation Sheet for Bentley should be of a different colour and that Rn.{Mr Robinson} should be included in the list of signatories.

18. High Speed Body. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} reported that the work on the high speed body was progressing satisfactorily. It was agreed that this body should be fitted to one of the 15 chassis and that the chassis should be modified in certain respects to suit this special purpose when it is returned to the Works.
