re Silting up of Radiators. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}26/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}11.29

Referring to H.1./EJW/8.11.29 and my discussions with you when at Derby last week, I was very much interested to hear from Oy. that a firm in America who adopted the aluminium head have also experienced the trouble with the sludge forming.

This question of radiators blocking up has caused us a great deal of trouble and has, I fear, done our reputation considerable harm.

I was very pleased when at Derby the other day to see that considerable progress was being made in eliminating or reducing the trouble, but you will remember we did not actually ascertain whilst I was there whether the process of submitting the cylinders to special heat treatment was actually being embodied in the present production.

Perhaps you will let me know for certain.

It then occurred to me that probably it would be a good idea for the technical people concerned to meet and agree their conclusions to date so that a memo. can be put up to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, setting out the result of investigations, action being taken and what further action it is suggested should be taken to prevent the trouble as distinct from reducing it.
