In order to endeavour to get as many of the instructed improvements as possible on the dampers which will be fitted to the car leaving for Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence at the end of next week, we are making castings to N.sch.2145, deleting the restricted leak over the high pressure valve. The reason for this is that RL/M2.3.26 indicates an alteration to this leak, and we do not anticipate that we shall get a WW. scheme for this alteration to enable the necessary pattern making, casting and machining to be carried out in time. We are incorporating the idea, however, in a temporary arrangement. At the same time we are carrying out intensive tests with various types of gland packing to overcome the trouble experienced at this point. We have tried the return from the gland with the lower oil level as indicated in DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/M27.2.26. The results do not indicate any possibilities in the scheme.
