TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M15.9.26. 20HP. BATTERY IN FRAME. X 5525 Herewith we send N. scheme 2271. shewing the centre stay arranged horizontally so that it cannot assist in carrying the battery should the rear support deflect. It is also made of two strips so that fore and aft movement of the battery cannot stress the strips. This is to be tried in connection with the standard cantilever support, though it will also be used in connection with the tubular support if the latter is found preferable for any other reason. With reference to F54385. R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not approve of the heavy solid stay with a hole drilled through it, and the modification on N. scheme 2271. is intended to replace it.
