The breaking off of the stop does not seem to be in itself any reason for changing the steering box material, since as previously mentioned, the stops should not be required to work during running of the car.

If the reduction of the sponge by alteration to the cross steering tube is not sufficient to prevent the stops being struck, then a longer pendulum lever slightly modifying the steering ratio can be tried. This will of course make the steering slightly heavier.

It has been confirmed verbally with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} that the lifting of the ball pins in their pads only occurs with the higher cross steering loads of Silver Phantom. There is therefore no reason to consider altering the B.V. pieces at the present moment, but if the alteration is successful on Silver Phantom it can of course be applied to B.V. whenever desired.
