SECRET. 2008 450 F.J.H. Copy to Mr. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Mr.C. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/WJH [Handwritten notes:] Where are we getting to Fitted to 26, 27, 28GVI O.K so far apart from stiffness due to bad fitting. F.J.H. SIDE STEERING TUBE - BENTLEY III. On N.Sch.5189 (Sheets 1 and 2) herewith we send the design of the Bentley III. Side Steering Tube. The forward joint is that designed for Bentley III. originally and shown on N.Sch.4920 and N.Sch.4964, with the exception of the angle of the socket relative to the ball pin. The rear joint is that already instructed for Wraith III. The whole matter of steering tube joints is under review by the Experimental Department, and subject to experimental test the rear joint may be that shown on Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}339. With respect to the forward joint the same housing as shown would be used, but the construction would follow that for Wraith III. shown on Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}338. Whatever is used will depend upon results of the tests on the experimental type of joint which are now being conducted on the first Wraith III. chassis 26.G.6. Att: N.Sch.5189.
