D.M.S./22.9.42 REPORT ON INVESTIGATION INTO - III TRIAL WEYBRIDGE ENGINE TESTS. 1350 H.P. MERLIN POWER PLANT FOR BEAUFIGHTER II. A modification to the rear cowling has now been developed which improves the cooling sufficiently for the installation to be acceptable under I.T.O. conditions as laid down by the R.A.E. We have installed the modified cowlings on the Port engine of the Beaufighter, but find that we are unable to obtain a true comparison with the results of the previous test No. A.13962/1, due to a marked deterioration in the cooling of the starboard engine which is still in its original condition. Some attempt is being made to improve the starboard engine by careful baffling, and the results of this work are presented in Test Report No. A.13962/2 dated 22.9.42. Work has now ceased for the Winter. | ||
