Abbott G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Sofy WRAITH 111 - OIL SEAL FOR VALVE SPRING TOP WASHER. Herewith please receive :- E.CD.1022 Neoprene Washer for Valve Wedge Oil Seal. Wraith 111. This is a modification to the original design suggested by Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to E.CD.846, which functioned very well as regards preventing oil flowing through the split wedges but which failed to remain in position on the recent 15,000 miles run on the Bentley car S.B.V. We have therefore undercut the counterbore in the top washer, and shown a Neoprene sealing washer to fit this undercut, replacing the original Klingerite parallel sided washer. Klingerite might, of course, be tried in the revised scheme, and possibly there are other materials which might be suitable, such as cork. This scheme should be tried in parallel with the design E.CD.1014, which has the advantage of being applicable to existing engines by merely replacing the valve wedges. Will you please detail and instruct experimentally. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
