- 2 - Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} The admiralty asked that pro-duction should be raised to ten per week, or forty per month, by the time the tools were completed. Mr. Hives said that B.U.S.M. would be asked to plan for this production, and that it ought to be possible to give a programme of what could be done in a month i.e. by the 20th. September. 4. SUB-CONTRACT. It was pointed out that without the machine tools asked for it would be difficult to get a production of ten guns per week. Furthermore, that the B.U.S.M. were definitely opposed to sub-contracting. Mr. Hives said that Messrs Rolls Royce had visited a number of firms, and there appeared to be a certain amount of capacity available and that he would try and get B.U.S.M. to re-consider their decision with regard to this form of production. I have no record or recollection of your having promised an output of ten guns per week by the middle of November, nor did I see how you could have made such a promise in view of the fact that B.U.S.M. are responsible for production.
