Recommending the adoption of a new Phantom Rocker Cover after testing proved it superior to the standard version which had a tendency to loosen.

PHANTOM ROCKER COVER

Reference to memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWHl/LG1.9.28. we have tested the special Rocker Cover handed to us by GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}, and it entirely overcomes our complaints.

With regard to the reduction of tappet noise by the incorporation of this scheme, we should say there is no doubt it will be an improvement.

The feature of the Standard rocker cover when fixed to the present aluminium head is, that it tends in the course of running to get quite loose. The testers have brought this to my notice, and I confirm that it is the case, a rather marked example having taken place on the Sports Car which I have used this week end, although I tightened this cover up no less than three times during the period I was using the car, it became loose at full torque, and set up quite a loud clatter.

You will appreciate that this feature of the cover tending to become loose is a very definite disadvantage, as there is a tendency to overtighten the same in the cold condition, with consequent increase in tappet noise.

We recommend that this new cover be adopted as soon as possible.
