To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} C. to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} C. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [Struck through] [Handwritten] X7090 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/LGL.9.9.28. PHANTOM ROCKER COVER. [Handwritten] X7090 To overcome the Test Dept. complaint of oily aluminium running down the cylinder walls from the edge of the rocker cover, we asked BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} for a scheme using a felt pad between the cyl. and rocker cover. This is incorporated in the cover Sch.1062 which also incorporates a scheme of spring load under the thumb nuts for keeping a specified load of the cover on to the cylinder head, thereby preventing fidgeting of the cover. We have tested this cover and are of the opinion that the scheme is good, but before bringing the cover into production we should like Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} to test same and give us his opinion. We are therefore sending the cover over to the Test Dept. for this test. We are of the opinion that the felt pad reduces the tappet noise by 10%. We should be pleased if Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} would confirm this on production cars. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. | ||
