Dear Hives, X 3614 X 3923 X 3912 X 3461a

You should receive this on Monday morning.
I understood at first Mr. Johnson wished you to go to U.S.A. personally, my conclusion was, we could not spare you unless you particularly wished to go.
Now it seems you are to be over there for a few weeks only to look into the conditions of driving and roads, one concludes this seems necessary and as I think you should know all the Springfield people personally, I cannot see but that you must go, so get your passage booked at once.

6.EX, when I took it to Chichester, appeared dreadful in the rear springs and last night I detached and took down the shock damper - found Ferodo and plates stuck tightly together that I have not yet been able to get them off the inner hub - friction was tremendous and jerky as if resin was used, surprising the attachments were not broken. To a large extent we were running along the road on the elasticity of the tyres, possibly it may be better to rivet the materials (fibre, raybestos, ferodo, pressphan or what-ever is found best) to the stationary plates, moreover, we must be able to get grease in and possibly between the plates.
Do not put this kind of Ferodo in front shock absorbers - wait until we know what is the best for rear.

Contd.
