CHASSIS ITEMS. Minute No. -2- 5. Item 5 on Agenda. Adjustable Shock Dampers. CG. read notes as follows:- "Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} says position is still as reported in Minutes. "He has made provision for its application to 20/25. "waiting decision as to whether automatic control is "to be brought in or not. "Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} has made provision for its introduction on "Peregrine and J.II. as far as possible, but modifi- "cations are necessary to method of connecting foot "pedal shaft levers to engine unit. Ds. has been "informed of this and it is for him to deal with the "modification. "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has one 40/50 car running with the W.W. scheme "of automatic control. Peregrine III and J.II. are "being fitted with hand control. Peregrine will "probably be completed by December End." Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said that he was getting little assistance from design dept. on hand control. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said R.{Sir Henry Royce} does not favour hand control, and in con- sequence designs are not likely to come from W.W. The ideal system seems to be automatic control as R's scheme but with an over-riding hand control added. It was decided that E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} should provide Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} with designs so that this over-riding hand control could be applied to the F.II experimental car which is already equipped with automatic control. 6. Item 6 on Agenda. J.II. progress generally and Minutes. of Conference 16.11.32. Is it clear must have for production quiet second speed and easy change? CG. read notes as follows:- "Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} has completed his part of the work on J.II. which "was required to include the improvements found "necessary on Peregrine. "He says the first car will have the quiet second speed, "but this will be produced by Exp. Dept. and a design "is still required. "H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} has dealt with all the items up to him shown in the "list under Item 5 of Minutes of Nov. End. "E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} points out that the patent question regarding the "self-adjusting tappets should be looked into as soon "as possible and Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} has made a note to do this." It was decided that E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} and Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} should go over the silent second as made up by Exp. Dept., and say whether it is sound in design with a view to standardisation. They will also go into the question of applying synchro-mesh to this gear at the same time. | ||
