Coverley - Production Engineer}/Mr.Reid. BY.3/G.21.6.39. WORKS CONFERENCE ON CHASSIS. HELD 19TH. JUNE 1939. Present: Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Mr.Reid. MAIN SUBJECT OF CONFERENCE : FRONT SUSPENSION. (1). Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} reported at the Conference on the subject dealing with RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}'s memo (RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/CAN.1/LS.14.6.39.). (2). On the question of cost of the material for the various parts, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} tabled a memo showing a reduction in cost from £14. 15. 7d. to £12. 0. 0. (3). Labour. In connection with 'Labour', Mr. Reid tabled figures to show a reduction of 20% on the labour cost shown in memo RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/CAN/1/LS/14.6.39. bringing down the labour charge from £6. 15. 10d. to £5. 8. 8d. Assuming the 225% overheads, this gives a total cost, material and labour of £29. 13. 2d. For a similar range of parts, that is covering the front suspension on the Wraith, the cost is £57. 0. 10d. It was agreed that the cost of the front suspension for Bentley V.{VIENNA} on the figures tabled, represented a satisfactory reduction. At the same time it was desired by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that individual cost should be produced for each of the parts, showing howthe total figure was made up. The next Section dealt with was - FRAMES AND FITTINGS. The total cost for Wraith was £53. 18. 3d. " " " " Bentley " £24. 0. 6d. showing a total saving in factory cost on material ... £34. 12. 6d. The above figures include the front pan in each case. | ||
