Page 12 1934 BUICK SERIES 40 S.U.P. SPECIFICATIONS RUNNING GEAR (CONT'D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}) REAR AXLE - Semi-floating, with pressed steel banjo-type housing. Spiral bevel ring gear and pinion, adjustable by means of shims. Drive and torque taken through torque tube and universal joint housing. Double taper type axle shaft with wheel mounting flange forged integral at its outer end. Differential side gears are splined and retained on axle shafts by washers which seat in counterbores of the gears. Drop center rims 16 x 4.50. Four tires standard regardless of number of wheels supplied. WHEEL AND TIRE OPTIONS - See page 4. WHEEL CARRIER - Hub type carrier at rear for one spare wheel is standard equipment. LICENSE BRACKET - Rear—on tail lamp bracket. Front—on right front bumper back bar. BRAKES FOOT - Bendix Duo-Servo equal-action, mechanically-operated, four wheel internal brakes. Evenly proportioned front and rear, correctly set at the factory. Brake hook-up utilizes a short cross shaft eliminating distortion of this part. Front and rear brake cables run diagonally from this cross shaft to the frame opposite each wheel. Cables are enclosed in a conduit from frame to brake mechanism on the wheels. Pressed steel brake drums. LINING COMBINATIONS - Front Primary (Lower) Manhattan 2320-A -- Light Tan color.
