Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Std.12/JH. -2- 14th June, 1938. As we cannot afford to take any risks whatsoever with these coolers after the trouble already experienced and as the 'F' type cooler which represents the results of all your best efforts is not prooving 100% reliable, we think that we should try the process of manufacture which our people originally used and which they maintain is the soundest i.e. silver solder the cooler casing together and then dip solder the block into it, building the tubes into the case itself before dipping. We would be glad if you could come over and discuss this proceedure with our Mr. Smith radiator shop foreman (with a view to adopting same). If this is not convenient we could probably arrange for him to visit you. We would like to test out quickly a cooler made up in this manner. At the moment the two F type coolers which have failed have proved to have soldering which was far from the standard of the first five F type coolers which we received from you and approved. We have yet to receive the modified car heater which you informed us was to be despatched at the end of last week. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
