INTRODUCTION & OBJECT OF TESTS. This type superseded the Kestrel type engine and the following tests were run to establish :- (1) Rated altitude at which 600 BHP. at 2600 RPM. could be maintained and also to determine the Rated Boost Pressure. (2) Whether the engine could develop the Rated Boost Pressure at maximum permissible speed at an operational height of 15,000 ft., in order to comply with the requirements of the Day & Night Fighter Competition for optimum performance on aircraft trials.
