R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} V5010 E2/M17.4.28. INDIA 3. CRANKSHAFT & BEARINGS. X.5010 X.5000 We send herewith blueprint of Lec. 2545 dealing with the above. This drg. has been made chiefly to shew what system of lubrication is proposed for the crankshaft. The present 20 HP. has only three main bearing feeds whereas we now required the seven. We have drawn duralumin caps for the bearings, but are not sure whether you wish to adopt these until we consider more sweeping alterations to the design of the crankchamber. We have also shewn studs for the main bearings instead of bolts. These, and also the use of plain studs for the cylinders, would save weight and expense, but here again this alteration may be premature as it entails more sweeping alterations than we have hitherto contemplated to the crankcase pattern. The centre bearing should have bolts, not studs, to agree with EAC.10. The original drg. is attached to BY's copy of this note. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
