(re: Aluminium - Tin Bearings ) Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter dated April 22nd. referring back to our previous correspondence in September of last year. In reply to your further queries (1) and (2). We recommend a fixed bearing and with correct clearance and lubrication, should give no trouble. In the remote chance of a seized bearing, the minimum damage will result to the shaft, as compared to other materials, and further there is less chance of throwing a rod. Material & hardness.(3) Important primarily for main bearings. Desireable hardness figure = 600 Brinell. Big end bearings have been run successfully down to 320 Brinell. Loading. On our own engines these bearings have been proved up to 2500 lbs. per sq.in. Clearances.(4) Interference fit. The outside diameter of the bearing should exceed | ||
