COPY. X7791 N-S PN.{Mr Northey} A20/H20.6.30. RE - CHASSIS 1-WJ. X8783 In your PN{Mr Northey}2/WT4.6.30, you asked for as much information as possible regarding the failure of the magneto upon the above car. I think I cannot do better than give you the makers' report upon it. It is as follows:- (Letter dated 12.6.30). "Further to our letter of the 7th inst, ref. CT.7/DD. we would inform you that the magneto No.109311 type E.W.6. was, upon examination, found to require a new slip ring fitting, the contact breaker overhauling, and a new observation cap, as this part was missing". "For/replacing of the observation cap we quote you 3/6d less 20%, and our invoice for this amount will beforwarded to you in due course". (Letter dated 19.6.30 inreply to ours for further information). "We thank you for your letter of the 13th inst. in connection with magneto No.109311, type E.W.6. and in reply would state that the cause of the slip ring requiring replacement is probably due to an increased resistance in the secondary circuit, for which we cannot account. With regard to the contact breaker requiring overhauling, we would state that this was due to the wear and tear of the magneto which, on referring to our records, we note was supplied from these Works in May 1928. In view of the length of service given by this machine, we do not consider that the overhauling of the contact breaker was unnecessary". A.{Mr Adams} | ||
