BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} } FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } C. to - EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} C. to - C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} REPORT ON TESTS OF COMPLETED CARS. The following matters were brought to our notice by JLE{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager}:- (1) The subframe centre support is often so low that it is impossible to get the bracket on the subframe resting upon it. The coachbuilders often weld a piece on the top of the "snug". We are not taking any action to improve the design of this as we are anticipating that HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will recommend the use of a rubber support at this point. We would like an early settlement of this question. (2) The lining up of the body relative to the rear brake drums on both 25HP. and 40/50. has been circularised as being essential. We have had one or two cars in which the inaccuracies in the chassis and the subframe are such that it has been impossible to do this. There has been no clearance between the subframe and the main frame on one side. We would be glad if Derby could tell us what they can do to avoid these occurrences. (3) While we have done something to make it possible to make a gastight joint round the levers on both cars we agree that something more can be done and this matter will receive our attention. (4) Regarding scuttle isolation we are still uncertain what is the best scheme that we should recommend to be used. We are not quite sure which is the last recommendation received from Derby. Would HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} please say. JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} recommends the use of our rubbers in side buffers between the dash and the scuttle vertical pillars. He is of the opinion also that we should tell coachbuilders how much to compress the rubber buffers. (5) It is agreed to extend the exhaust pipe of P. 2. to the rear cross member. We shall send a scheme. (6) With respect to P. 2. headlamp wiring there seems to be no difficulty in having a continuous wire to the headlamps. We are therefore recommending the following:- (a) a continuous wire to the headlamps, (b) the present wire to the Lucas adapter on the outside of the frame for the wing lamp and up each side, an extra wire going to a small round bakelite disconnecting box such as we had at the end of the steering column, this wire to be used for double bulb lamps, bi-focal, dimmers, or the centre lamp. We would be glad if Derby would set this out. (1) Handwritten notes: x7380 x4613 x7230 x7800 x5770 Stamp: ORIGINAL | ||
